Yo My Fellow Road Warriors of Love!
As a transformational coach, part of what I do is help people to cultivate their relationship with their Guide, their Inner Teacher, the Voice for God in their minds. This is critical because that Voice is the true Coach. Whatever I might be directed to say or do is simply as a conduit.
People ask me a lot about guidance – they think they aren’t getting it, they can’t hear it, they feel alone, like no one is watching, or paying attention, or helping them.
But that is so far from the Truth. I am living proof of it, and I’m not special. We are all being guided, at every moment. Our intuitive system is spot on, it’s literally our inner GPS – or God Positioning System – our compass for navigating the world.
Just as we can hear the voice of our car or phone’s GPS directing us and correcting our wrong turns or missed exits, we are naturally able to hear the Voice for God – the Holy Spirit in our minds – doing the same thing. We just have to have to be willing to be quiet enough to hear it, to crank up the volume, and not to have every other device and appliance on drowning out the sound of it.
Especially not those broadcasting fear 24/7.
I see guidance as being provided to us on two levels – first, how to awaken to the Truth, so that we no longer experience the dream that we are in the world – and second, managing our experience of the dream while we are in the process of waking up.
I can say that for me, whatever has been going on in my life – when I’ve asked for and made space for guidance, beautiful solutions were presented very gently and almost effortlessly. They basically showed up through the direction of Spirit without my having to do much other than following the lit-up breadcrumbs.
I’ve been told where to bang a u-turn, when to keep going straight ahead when I was afraid, and have had my route completely recalculated. I’ve also been reassured that I’m on the right road and I’m getting close to my destination.
Although we are assured by the Voice for God in A Course in Miracles that guidance is constantly flowing to us, we can also definitely block our awareness of it. Some of the obstacles that interfere with my ability to be conscious of guidance are when I am in fear, or pissed off, or distracted (like by being in fear or pissed off) or when I am confused by having too many thoughts or am moving too fast and am therefore not conscious or present.
But when I actually slow myself down and pay attention, it is nothing short of amazing.
Even the stuff that seems negative on the surface. Sometimes I observe things happening a way that feels like the opposite of the directions I have asked for. Like, wtf? This is the road? How is this in any way supposed to take me to what I said I wanted or needed?
But when I take a step back, allow myself to breathe, stop judging the situation, and let myself think that maybe Spirit might possibly know what it’s doing, what is revealed to me is a far greater wisdom at work than I am capable of. As I look with my Guide, I can see why things lined up in a particular way. Not that Spirit is causing bad things to happen (although my ego is going, “Yes He is! Yes He is! Because you’re guilty!”)
Rather, I understand that things are being brought into alignment, aspects that need correction are highlighted, places that need repairing are showing themselves, stuff is coming up to be healed – all of which are necessary precursors to my being able to experience whatever it is I have asked for.
After all, our GuideBro Jesus did walk the illusory Earth a few times as a dude, and I’m pretty sure He knows something about getting out of it. Not to put too fine a point on it, but His teaching from Workbook Lesson 155,
“I will step back and let Him lead the way”
W.pI.155
kind of says exactly that.
Even as He guides us toward what is ours to do in the dream, he is waking us up.
And what is involved in waking up?
It’s doing what our part is in all of it.
As the Course teaches us, “
“Once you accept His plan as the one function that you would fulfill, there will be nothing else the Holy Spirit will not arrange for you without your effort. He will go before you, making straight your path, and leaving in your way no stones to trip on, and no obstacles to bar your way. Nothing you need will be denied you. Not one seeming difficulty will but melt away before you reach it. You need take thought for nothing, careless of everything except the only purpose that you would fulfill.”
(T-20.IV.8:4)
And so what exactly is our function again? A Course in Miracles tells us that forgiveness is our function, salvation is our function, our happiness and our function are one, and our only function is the one God gave us.
Ummm, so which one is it?
Yes.
It is all of them. They’re the collective road that leads to our destination. They are each part of the process of getting us to wake up in the home we never left. Forgiveness is our function as the Light of the World. It joins us with our brothers and leads us to salvation from the fear that we are separate from God, which is the only problem we have. Salvation from our belief in separation reunifies us with our true state of happiness, which is the only function God gave us.
Let’s put the fun back in function.
Forgive the appearance of what is happening in the dream for the egoic illusion that it is. Ask to see it differently, and then ask for guidance as to what is yours to do in the world of form. Say to your Inner GPS, as the Course advises us to,
“Where would you have me go? What would you have me do? What would you have me say? And to whom? What miracles would you have me perform today?”
(W-p1.170.9:20)
And listen, trusting that you will receive your directions – remembering that
“God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.”
(W-pI.49)
Thank you for being with me today as we traverse the winding road of this experience together. If anything in this post has inspired you to open yourself to guidance and allow your inner GPS to be recalibrated, please share the video and post.
I’d also love to hear about it – leave me a comment or send me an email. I love them and I read every one.
