Lesson 268 in A Course in Miracles is “Let all things be exactly as they are” and begins with,
“Let me not be your critic, Lord, today, and judge against you.”
W-pII.268.1:1
This phrase can be misperceived to mean that God is making all kinds of sh*tty things happen in the world but we’re not supposed to criticize Him, but rather just look at everything that’s going down as “His will”.
That’s bullshit, and also a surefire way to get us to hate on God and see Him as a terrible, abusive father that does awful things for no reason – and we’re just supposed to go along and pretend we agree with all of it.
This is the completely twisted kind of explanation that arises from the false part of our minds that wants us to make fear our god and this world real, and not allow ourselves to be governed by love.
This lesson is actually asking us to remember what “exactly as they are” really means. It means that in Reality we are all whole and perfect creations of God – rays of His Light, extensions of His Love, beings of pure light – and that joy is our “as they are” natural state.
If we are seeing anything other than that we are looking with the body’s eyes, which reflect a massive illusion caused by our suppressed unconscious guilt.
It is this erroneous belief that we and our bros are guilty of separating from God that causes us to project our fear of punishment onto the world we see, and those thoughts are reflected back to us in the form of whatever appears to be happening in our experience.
As we shift our thoughts to those of innocence by forgiving our bros and ourselves for anything and everything that we think is causing our pain, anger, resentment, or harshing our mellow in any way – no matter how big or how small – our experience shifts too.
So we have a way better shot at rocking our joy if rather than trying to change the world, or people, or situations, we – as the Course reminds us:
T-21.In.1:7.
“Choose to change your mind about the world.”
Forgiveness is an illusion too. In our true state of Oneness it is not necessary. But as students of A Course in Miracles, it’s our path to getting to the place where we don’t need it. It’s an illusion, as the Course explains in lesson 198,
“that is answer to the rest” (2:10), the one that “sweeps all other dreams away” (3:1). It is the one illusion that brings us to the end of illusions, the Truth, that no one is guilty of anything.
W-pI.198.2-10-3-1.
So letting all things be exactly as they are literally means seeing love where it’s obvious, and where it isn’t – letting forgiveness shift our perception so that it once again can arise in our awareness.
I love you exactly as you are.
