Calling all Radiant Beams! Happy Chanukah!
I love the symbolism of this holiday. In the Jewish tradition, Chanukah, aka The Festival of Lights, celebrates the purification and rededication of the Holy Temple after its reclamation from those attempting to force the people to worship false idols.
Fast forward a couple of thousand years, and isn’t that what we’re still pretty much doing right now? Liberating and reclaiming the sacred temple of our minds from the false self of the ego?
Word.
After the reclaimed temple was rededicated to the service of God, it was discovered that although the menorah was mean to remain lit throughout the night every night, there was only enough sacred oil left to light it for one day. Miraculously, the oil continued to burn for 8 days, allowing time for new oil to be prepared and purified.
I see a beautiful metaphor in this. In the thought system taught by A Course in Miracles, the power of our faith in the innocence of our brothers and the miracle of forgiveness are the miracle that keep our light illuminated. They allow the abundance of Light to fill the temple of our hearts and minds, purifying us, and reclaiming our holy selves from the false idols of fear in all its disguises.
Lesson 61 in A Course in Miracles is,
“I am the light of the world.”
Literally, we are extensions of the Light of God – and our radiance shines on every bro in our minds, revealing their innocence, their perfection, their oneness with us and with the Divine.
The idea that we are the light of the world is not arrogant or self-glorifying, because it does not refer to our own self-concept or identity. Rather, as the Course teaches,
“It refers to you as you were created by God. It simply states the truth.”
W-pI.61.1:6-7
How do we reclaim our inner temple from the false idols of the ego, and rededicate it to serving God?
We do it by forgiving our brothers for whatever guilt we thought we saw in them and allowing our judgmental and loveless thoughts to be purified in the light of truth. In doing so, we can see the gorgeous, shimmering light of our own innocence, our own wholeness, burning forever in the holy temple of our minds.
Happy Chanukah. You are the light of the f*cking world.
I love you.
